Why 2019 WSJ?
The Summit Experience: Join the Wild and Wonderful Adventure
The Summit Bechtel Reserve, a world class, sustainable, Jamboree site, will be the site of the 2019 World Scout Jamboree. The Summit Bechtel Reserve is located in West Virginia, USA, and is comprised of more than 14,000 acres of beautiful forested mountains adjacent to more than 70,000 acres of national park in the scenic New River Gorge area of West Virginia.
Our program will capture the four core values of The Summit Bechtel Reserve: adventure, service, sustainability, and leadership. The foundations of Scouting are as much a part of SBR as the zip lines, mountain bike trails, and BMX ramps.
The Summit Bechtel Reserve is one of the most environmentally sustainable human habitats ever built for Scouts. The Sustainability Treehouse is a living education center for Scouts, not only providing information, but also immersing Scouts in the concept of sustainability. Between the local timber used to build the structure, the rainwater recovery system, or the wind- and solar-generated energy, the Sustainability Treehouse is not just a museum. Standing 126 feet tall and featuring 4,000 square feet of interactive exhibits, the Treehouse, along with the McAllister Family Sustainability Challenge Trail and other exhibits, will serve as the centerpiece of Scouting’s commitment to leave the world a better place. Sustainable practices will be evident everywhere you look, as they are at the core of SBR’s infrastructure, and sustainability will be a core part of the 2019 World Scout Jamboree program.
For the first time at a world Scout jamboree, participants can experience “wild and wonderful” adventures such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, and mountain biking. Adventure Valley offers world-class climbing, mountain biking, and zip lining. The Rocks, one of the largest man-made climbing facilities in the world, and The Ropes, balance beams, cargo nets, and other challenges, are guaranteed to raise your pulse. SBR’s zip lines cover 5.45 miles and rank as one of the top sites in the world. The Low Gear and High Gear mountain bike courses provide more than 36 miles of cross country and downhill mountain bike trails. Add The Park, one of the largest outdoor skateboard facilities in the world, and The Trax, one of the largest BMX facilities, designed and constructed by the designer for ESPN’s X Games, and you start to get an idea of how unique this jamboree will be.
The Summit Bechtel Reserve is only the backdrop. It is the people who make the experience unforgettable. Though we will bring different uniforms, different languages, and different cultures to North America, the jamboree will help you realize how much we have in common. What makes every world Scout jamboree special is how our different nationalities unite to surround you with an experience that will change your life. You will become friends with Scouts from countries you may never have heard of before, from countries halfway around the world from your home. You may pitch your tent next to a troop that speaks a different language than you, but by nightfall, together you will be sharing moments of Scouting fellowship that are hard to create anywhere else. Your host countries, Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will provide glimpses into each of our unique cultures, but the world of Scouting is our real stage. The 24th World Scout Jamboree is all about unlocking new friendships and understanding new cultures, all at a venue that will challenge you to do things you did not think were possible. Imagine the possibilities when Scouts from more than 162 accredited National Scouting Organizations come together to enjoy the world Scout jamboree experience at The Summit Bechtel Reserve.
The 24th World Scout Jamboree will provide memories that you never thought imaginable. Whether it is sharing a stage at a talent show with someone you just met, flying on a zip line across Adventure Valley, or attending an interfaith service with Scouts of many different backgrounds, there will be no shortage of experiences to fill your day and enrich your life. You will realize that you are part of something larger than yourself, and that the Scouting movement, and you, as a Messenger of Peace, have the ability to make the world a better place, starting each and every day. We invite you to visit North America, to meet Scouts from around the world on the Avenue of Flags, to challenge yourself with the adventure experiences of The Summit Bechtel Reserve, and in the course of your jamboree experience, realize your international dream.
Join Us in 2019 to Unlock a New World
We invite you to join the Scouting associations of North America to “Unlock a New World” at the 2019 World Scout Jamboree. For the first time, a world jamboree will be hosted by three national Scout organizations: Scouts Canada, Asociación de Scouts de México, and the Boy Scouts of America. These three distinct cultures will join together to host the world Scouting community in a celebration of cultural exchange, mutual understanding, peace, and friendship.
The 2019 World Scout Jamboree will be held July 22 through August 2, 2019, at The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, USA. Unlike any other youth event, a world Scout jamboree invites you to surround yourself in the cultures of the world by joining your new Scouting friends at a single destination for 12 unforgettable days. The jamboree experience extends beyond your home—and beyond the boundaries of our host countries—to create a global adventure that will last a lifetime.
The 2019 World Scout Jamboree logo is a design born in friendship and unity. Our global logo consists of multicolor ribbons featuring the official colors of the national flags of the three host countries and the world Scouting movement. The ribbons, in turn, reach out to symbolically embrace and welcome the world Scouting community, in the form of the World Crest, to The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.
Our theme, Unlock a New World, invites you to unlock new adventures, new cultures, and new friendships. The theme was originally designed by youth representatives from our three host countries, also known as the “Dream Team,” who were responsible for presenting the original bid for the 24th World Scout Jamboree. That theme has been carried forward by our next generation of youth representatives, “Dream Team Two.” Whether you attend as one of our 30,000 participants, or join our staff of 10,000 as part of the International Service Team or Contingent Management Teams, we invite you to unlock a world of opportunities.
